For those of you who have read my previous posts you will know that as a photographer specialising in baby portraits, I absolutely love photographing babies at six-to-eight months and I’ve found that indoor at-home sessions work the best. This stage, often known as the “sitter stage,” is a wonderful time to photograph babies because they are full of personality but not yet on the move. While outdoor sessions have their charm, there are several reasons why indoor at-home photography sessions are often the best choice for babies in this age range.

Babies feel most at ease in their home environment, where they are surrounded by familiar sights, sounds, and smells. This comfort helps them remain relaxed and happy during the session, leading to more natural and joyful expressions.

Often six-to-eight month old babies have developed routines, so scheduling an at-home session makes it easier to time the session at their happiest times—typically after naps and feedings—ensuring better moods and bigger smiles.

I love capturing the baby rolls and their tiny toes! By holding the shoot at home we can turn on the heating and it allows us to pose them in their vest or even just a nappy, to capture their beautiful baby rolls before they disappear (often as soon as they are on the move!)

Parents appreciate the ease of at-home sessions since they don’t have to pack up nappies, outfits, and other essentials to travel to a studio or outdoor location. Everything they need is within reach, making the experience stress-free and enjoyable.
